Ah, it’s that time again. The hustle and bustle of the holidays are upon us. And it’s time to start thinking of gifts to give your loved ones. Every year we all struggle with finding the perfect presents. Will this shirt fit Uncle Jimmy? Is this the right color for your niece Rachel? Do I need gift receipts? Uggghhh. It can be overwhelming. Might we suggest some alternatives to traditional gift giving. 1. Donate to organizations that are doing great things to help others. What better way to celebrate the true holiday spirit, than to give to those in need. Consider giving a donation in someone’s name and give them a card with a beautiful message about why you wanted to donate in their name. Perhaps they are big animal lovers, so you could donate to the Blind Cat Sanctuary and Rescue to help fluffy blind cats to have a happy place to call home or to Animal Ark, a no-kill shelter. If you’re feeling really committed, consider adopting one of their sweet cats or dogs *make sure all involved are fully ready to care for a new pet. Are they passionate about helping those in need? You could donate to places like the Lift Garage, a non-profit that provides low cost car repair to those living under the poverty line or Neighbors that provides essential needs to low-income community members. A bonus for these gifts is you don’t have to stress and fight the crowds. Just click donate and you’re all set! 2. Make it a date! Take that special someone to an event or museum. Gifts don’t always have to come in a wrapped box. Make it an experience with those on your gift-giving list and spend some time having fun with them. Make it interesting and tailored to their interests. For the history buff in your life, take them on a trip to visit the Commemorative Air Force MN Wing museum, buy them a history flight on a WWII aircraft, and take them shopping in their gift shop! (they also take donations: see gift idea number one!) 3. Give the gift of membership. Do the people on your holiday list enjoy doing things more than receiving a traditional gift? Give a gift that lasts throughout the year with a membership to a great place. How about the Minnesota Zoo for those who love furry creatures, the Science Museum of Minnesota for those who love learning, or for the aviation history fan the Commemorative Air Force MN Wing. This option is a gift for you too; you can join them throughout the year and spend more time with your favorite people! 4. Items you can wrap! For a more traditional route, how about some delicious Warbird Coffee? Your gift recipient can enjoy some tasty coffee that warms their home during the holidays with that cozy smell of coffee! AND your purchase of Warbird Coffee helps each museum represented on the packaging; a portion of the profits goes to help keep those WWII aircraft flying and honoring veterans! For those aviation fans, you can wrap them up in all sorts of swag with Why I Fly merchandise or represent with the inspiring Women Air Force Service Pilots. Hopefully these ideas have sparked your holiday spirit in treating your loved ones to great presents! Whatever you decide to give this year, they are sure to love it.
